Mortal Kombat 11 Trailer Is Appropriately Bloodier Than Ever

(Source: screenrant.com)

NetherRealm Studios announced Mortal Kombat 11 to the world in an official reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2018. The trailer featured a bit of a new look for the series, and announced a global launch date of April 23, 2019.

Mortal Kombat has been one of the most popular fighters in the world for decades now, with the first iteration of the franchise releasing all the way back in 1992. Since then, the series has flirted with disaster a few different times, but has managed to rebound with strong follow-ups that have preserved the iconic series as one of the fighting genre’s greatest. The last mainline Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 10, released three years ago in 2015 to generally strong reviews.

Mortal Kombat 11’s new announce trailer reveals a game that, at least based on aesthetics, appears to have gone for both style and substance. With a hip-hop track called “Immortal” by 21 Savage playing in the background, the trailer showcases a brutal battle between Scorpion and Dark Raiden, as each fighter jockeys for position. The trailer appears to highlight just how detailed the brutality zoom-ins will be in the new game, highlighting a particularly gruesome bone break at one point in visceral detail. The trailer ends with Dark Raiden, thinking he’s the victor, falling victim to a classic Scorpion strike alongside a “get over here!” for good measure.

The announce trailer also revealed that the game will be coming sooner rather than later, with a target launch date of April 23, 2019. Fans won’t have to wait that long to see more on the newest title in the Mortal Kombat series, though, as there will also be what’s being called Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal, a community event that will happen on January 17 at 11am PST. In just over a month, there will certainly be more news regarding Mortal Kombat 11 to digest, but for now, NetherRealm Studios also revealed the existence of a Custom Character Variation System that will let players customize their rosters of fighters in ways that haven’t been possible before.

Mortal Kombat 11 is also touting its preorder deals already. The announce trailer closed on a rendition of Shao Kahn waiting on a throne, beseeching consumers to preorder the title in order to get Shao Kahn and beta access to the new game. Preorders for both console and PC begin on December 7, 2018, although there’s no word on when the game’s beta access period will begin. If anything, the Community Reveal Event will likely have more details in that regard as well, alongside an update on just how many roster members fans can expect, and whether or not the game will be able to court some crossover characters the same way series like Soul Calibur have done recently.
