Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt is in early talks to star in a movie reboot of long-running franchise The Saint. When Pratt first gained fame as the highly likeable, but not exactly hard-bodied Andy Dwyer on NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, it’s highly doubtful any of his fans ever expected him to eventually attain A-list status as an action movie star. Yet, that’s exactly what happened, with Pratt now sporting a ripped physique to boot.
Pratt’s breakthrough movie role of course came in 2014, playing lead hero Peter “Star-Lord” Quill in James Gunn’s original Guardians of the Galaxy film, which turned out to succeed beyond the wildest dreams of most industry prognosticators. The following year, Pratt’s star power rocketed even further upward thanks to his leading heroic role as Owen Grady in Jurassic World, the first entry into that mammoth Steven Spielberg-created franchise since 2001’s widely panned Jurassic Park 3. That film became a hit on an even larger scale, and one of the highest-grossing films of 2015.
Outside of the poorly-received sci-fi drama Passengers, in which Pratt starred opposite Jennifer Lawrence, he’s continued to rack up wins in sequels Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and of course Avengers: Infinity War. Pratt will presumably return for next year’s Avengers 4, despite being dusted by Thanos at the end of the prior film. Now, Deadline reports that Pratt might be looking to add another franchise to his resume, as he’s in early talks with Paramount to star in a movie reboot of The Saint.
For those in need of a refresher, The Saint franchise – and its lead character Simon Templar – began life via a series of books written by Leslie Charteris. Templar went on to appear in multiple feature films, a radio drama, and theatrical serials from the 1930s to 1960s. His most popular incarnation came via a British TV series starring Roger Moore that ran for over 100 episodes. Val Kilmer starred in a 1997 attempt to turn The Saint into a blockbuster Hollywood film, but critics hated it, and its box office earnings were underwhelming.
In addition to his assumed appearance in Avengers 4 – and probably also Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, once Disney finds a new director – Pratt also has Jurassic World 3 on the horizon. He’ll also reprise the character of Emmet Brickowski in The Lego Movie 2. Pratt’s plate is certainly full over the next few years, whether or not he ends up portraying Simon Templar. If he does though, it’ll certainly be an interesting choice.
