Next week on June 19 the rankings for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants will be announced in Bilbao, Spain. In the meantime, the global gastronomic guide has just unveiled the dining establishments that placed 51 to 100.
Hong Kong has three restaurants on the list – but all three dropped in the rankings this year.
Amber at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental fell the most, from 24th place last year to 56th place. 8½ Otto e Mezzo, the flagship establishment of chef Umberto Bombana, fell to 93rd place from 60th place. Lung King Heen, the fine dining Cantonese restaurant in the Four Seasons Hong Kong, fell to 80th place from 71st place.
Around the Asia region, Suhring in Bangkok, which serves modern German fare, is ranked at number 54. Singapore’s Burnt Ends, with its Australian barbecue dishes, grabbed 61st place, while the modern French restaurant L’Effervescence in Tokyo came in at number 92.
Chef Julien Royer’s Odette in Singapore fell off the list (it was in 86th place last year), as well as Tokyo’s Sushi Saito, which was ranked number 97 a year ago.
