Prince to be Celebrated With a Symphonic Tour Later This Year

(Source: sg.style.yahoo.com)

The symphonic tour has been approved by the Prince estate, will be curated by Questlove and is set to kick off in September.

Legendary The Roots drummer Questlove is bringing Prince’s music back on tour.

Questlove will curate a selection of Prince’s catalog for an initial tour of 33 cities in a symphonic production produced by Live Nation Urban and TCG Entertainment. The tour, which was reportedly approved by the Prince estate, will be called 4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince and will have songs performed by a full symphony.

Questlove explained on Twitter that the tour only has an initial set of dates, but is likely to expand. He added that his role is only to curate, not perform, likening the tour to a recipe.

“It’s a full blown orchestra and a rhythm section,” he wrote on Twitter. “Adding condiments and spices to what was prepared. think of Michael Jackson’s One in Vegas (minus the dancers and stuff).”

CURATE: giving my 2 cents and suggestions and bringing some Lowerys and Hot Sauce along in case some potato salad is in proximity. should be super cool y’all. https://t.co/bkRjYS1jL2

Interest in Prince’s music — particularly a treasure trove of unreleased material — has intensified since the singer’s tragic overdose death in 2016. The symphonic tour will highlight his previously released materials.

Some fans complained on Twitter that the initial dates exclude largely the western half of the United States, but Questlove tried to quell those fears.

“This is just the beginning. we need to have some opening dates before the entire world sees it. im certain IF a success, this will travel all over the world,” he wrote.

The tour is set to kick off Sept. 6 in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
