Amazon is updating its mobile apps with a new International Shopping experience that makes it easier to shop for products on Amazon abroad within the app.
Users will now be able to browse Amazon on mobile in five languages (Spanish, English, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, and German), and prices can be displayed in 25 local currencies, with a goal of making it easier to browse the app and order products abroad. More languages and currencies are planned to be added later this year, too.
You’ll also be able to specifically filter products that are available to ship to your specific country, with clearer pricing, shipping costs, and import duty estimates all shown in the app. Amazon says that it also works with courier services for customs clearance to make things easier for customers.
While the update will likely be most useful for countries that don’t have their own local Amazon sites, making international shopping easier for customers in countries like Japan or England is still beneficial. The range of products that are available on the US version of the popular retailer that aren’t always sold in other countries.
The new international shopping settings should be rolling out today on the Amazon app on iOS and Android, under a new “Country and Language” option in the app settings menu. Unfortunately, the new feature will be limited to only the mobile apps for now, so Amazon customers abroad shopping on the US site will still have to filter products and convert prices and languages manually.
