LONDON – Georgina Chapman, the wife of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, may have left him but she could be facing a new headache.
Can her own fashion line Marchesa avoid a fallout after reports surfaced that he used his power to get stars to wear the label at top occasions such as the red carpet?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a publicist claimed that Weinstein told Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman to wear Marchesa if she wanted publicity funding for her 2005 comedy Transamerica.
Huffman turned up at the Golden Globes in a Marchesa gown.
Another publicist said Sienna Miller was pressured to wear Marchesa at the Golden Globes in 2007 after starring in the Weinstein-produced Factory Girl.
Even before the sexual-harassment storm engulfing Weinstein broke, there had already been talk that Marchesa had benefited from his clout.
The Daily Mail noted that stars – who have appeared in Weinstein-produced films and worn Marchesa – include Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and Cate Blanchett.
