SIIC Environment Holdings has received approval from local authorities for commercial operations in the expansion and upgrading of a water plant in Wuhan, China.

SIIC, a water treatment company, said that commercial operations at the Hanxi Waste Water Treatment Plant began on Aug 24.

With the expansion and upgrading, the daily design capacity of the plant will increase to 600,000 tonnes per day with a discharge standard of Grade 1B, the company said. The base tariff has been raised to 1.139 yuan (23 Singapore cents) per tonne from 0.723 yuan per tonne.

The guaranteed minimum treatment volume for the first two years is 560,000 tonnes per day. From the third year within the concessionary period, the guaranteed minimum treatment volume will be 600,000 tonnes per day.
