Last January, Hope Hicks, who was still living in her hometown of Greenwich, CT, was named a member of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 class of 2017 in the Law & Policy category as the Press Secretary for then President-elect Donald Trump. This week, she was named the White House Communications Director. She is the third person to hold the job since Trump’s inauguration, following Mike Dubke and Anthony Scaramucci, and by far the youngest at only 28 years old.

Hicks was sky-rocketed into the political arena when Trump declared himself a candidate in the Republican primary and chose Hicks–who had been doing PR for the Trump family businesses, including Ivanka Trump’s fashion company–to run his press relations. From there, she transitioned to working on the White House communications team and as a trusted aide to the president, until becoming interim Communications Director in August.

The rare member of Trump’s team who stays quiet on social media (her Instagram account is private, and she deleted her Twitter account), she is perhaps most vocal when it comes to the President. “Whether it’s Twitter or an arena or a TV Show, he’s magnetic,” Hicks told FORBES. “People are drawn to him.”

Back in December, when we were putting together the 30 Under 30 list, we asked Hicks a whole bunch of questions–from her favorite emoji to her dream mentor. Here’s what she had to say.
