SINGAPORE – Home-grown jazz singer Joanna Dong is said to have made it to the grand final of hit TV singing contest Sing! China, according to online reports such as China Press.

When The Straits Times contacted Dong for comment, she said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their support, but they will have to stay tuned to Sing! China to find out if the rumours are true.”

The grand final is scheduled to be held on Oct 8 at Beijing’s National Stadium. Much of the show each season is recorded in advance.

If the reports are true, she will be the second Singaporean to have a chance at winning the competition, after Nathan Hartono in last year’s show. Hartono, 26, eventually emerged in second place, losing to Chinese singer Jiang Dunhao.

Dong, 35, also has the same celebrity mentor as Hartono – Mandopop superstar Jay Chou.

Two other singers from Singapore are still in the competition this year – Olinda Cho and Chinese student Curley Gao.
