As we prepare to launch the 2017 edition of FORBES’ list of America’s Most Expensive Homes For Sale, we decided to check in with a few of the standouts from last year. Spoiler alert: Most are still waiting for a well-heeled buyer.

Just two of 11 homes that were listed for $100 million or more in 2016 have sold–for at least $50 million below list. Two are still listed at the original price. Four have taken price cuts of at least 15%. We could not confirm the status of four homes that are no longer listed and for which property records do not indicate a sale.

Yes, homes priced above $100 million are hard to sell, says Aaron Kirman, the listing agent behind one of the sales.

Non-billionaires need not apply. As of FORBES’ last tally there were 2,043 people across the globe with more than $1 billion to their name. Kirman’s job is to find the one that wants a place in Los Angeles, loves the house and wants to part with that kind of cash.

Plus, with such unique properties, nine-figure prices are often shots for the moon–or at least a new record. “Cocky real estate agents and cocky developers set the tone,” he admits.

Private equity billionaire Tom Gores bought this new construction in October as part of a $100 million deal.

This 11-acre estate is no longer the Hamptons’ most expensive, but it remains on the market at the same price as a year ago.

Danny Thomas Estate | Los Angeles

Price 2016: $135 million

Status 2017: Sold

Evan Metropoulos, son of billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos, snagged this hill-top villa for just $65 million. His brother, Daren, bought the Playboy mansion last year.

Residents will begin moving into Zeckendorf Development’s 54 story tower next year. A number of high-priced units have sold, but a buyer for the 12,400 square-foot penthouse has yet to be announced.

Price 2016: $125 million

Status 2017: asking $85 million

The longtime owners of this sprawling estate listed it with a nine-figure ask in 2014. In March they blinked, slashing the price by 32%.

In September, five months after originally listing, the price on this 20 room apartment was cut to $96 million. In June it was removed from the market. City property records do not indicate a sale.

Status 2017: asking $67 million

Michael Jackson’s former home, now known as Sycamore Valley Ranch, has been on the market since 2015. In March Coldwell Banker took over the listing and cut the price by a third.

Price 2016: $100 million

Status 2017: asking $85 million

First listed in September 2015, this three-house compound took a 15% price cut a year later. It now has new representation with Laffey Fine Homes International.

South Shore Estate

Status 2017: unknown

Shortly after last year’s list was published the listing page for this 312-acre property was removed from the Westside Estate Agency’s site. There is no indication of a sale.

When it listed in September this home tied with Gemini as the most expensive officially for sale. It has since been taken off the market.
