Audeze has just announced its new flagship in-ear planar magnetic headphones at the Munich High End hi-fi show.

It is called the LCDi4 and it was designed with technology from Audeze’s highly acclaimed LCD-4 headphones.

As a result, the new LCDi4 uses the same ultra-thin diaphragms that are found in the LCD-4. The diaphragms are so thin, it is about the width of a white blood cell.

In addition, the LCDi4 will have other Audeze technologies like Fluxor magnets and Uniforce voice coil.

According to Audeze, these technologies give it a wide sound stage, excellent transient response, and a flat bass response from 900Hz all the way down to 5Hz. The rated frequency response of the LCDi4 is 5Hz to 50kHz.

Impedance is 35 Ohms and sensitivity is 105dB/1mW, which means most mobile devices should be able to provide it with enough juice. However, Audeze says that an amplifier is required to get the LCDi4 to sound its best.

The housing is made out of magnesium, which also makes the headphones themselves incredibly light. Each piece weighs just 12g. A braided cable made of silver-plated OCC copper with Kelvar threads is provided.

The Audeze LCDi4 will go on sale in limited quantities in June and will be priced at US$2,495 (~S$3,473).
